The next level

By Mark Lee

I said this on Twitter the other night, and it bears repeating here. Starting a blog is easy. Maintaining a blog is so so hard.

I’ve had this blog going for a few weeks. It’s been fun, but the goal is now to take it to the next level.

Thanks so much to all who participated in my little survey last week. I had some hunches, and they were proven right for the most part:

  • As cool as the current look of the blog is, legibility is more important. Especially since the site features guitar lessons! Look for a redesign in a couple of weeks…
  • There is a trust factor involved with blogging, and people aren’t necessarily willing to hand over the reins of trust to guest bloggers. Fair enough. I’ll hold off for now. Whenever I do get around to having guest posts, I’ll make sure it’s a good enough article or a good enough guest blogger to be worthy of your trust!
  • People are very busy and a little hesitant to embrace new websites. However, I think the ning idea is cool enough that it’s worth trying. It won’t be “one more website” that you feel obligated to visit. Rather, it will be a way to integrate what I’m doing into a meta-community thingy. I promise it’ll be cool. It’s cool in my head at least.

Most importantly, it seems like the idea of this site is resonating with people. That’s a good thing!

One more thing: I have realized, in starting my “Guitar for the Absolute Beginner” series, that in order for me to do it RIGHT it’s going to take a little longer to unfurl than I had hoped. So bear with me. It will get there :)
