My guitar rig

By Mark Lee

Before I get going too far with this website, I should introduce myself. On tour, it is quite common for the first (and sometimes only!) contact guitarists to have with one another is seeing another guitar player’s rig on the stage. So it somehow seems appropriate for me to show you my guitar rig first.

II hope to unpack this in the coming weeks and talk about some specific effects I use. But for now, I’m going to start with sort of a “bird’s eye” tour. I use a Bradshaw switching system. The “brain” of the Bradshaw is housed in a rack, along with wireless units and a couple of rack delays. Also in the rack are two “drawers” that house my pedals. At my feet I have the controller for the Bradshaw, a tuner, a volume controller and two tap tempo switches.

(NOTE: these pictures were taken last spring. My rig has changed slightly since then, but these are the most recent photos I have!)

Above: I combine the GT-500 and the Fulldrive 2 for my main overdrive tone. The Cusack Screamer Fuzz is my main distortion. I have a separate 10th AnniversaryFulldrive 2 which I use as a dedicated lead tone. For compression I’m currently using a Boss Compression/Sustainer

In my second rack drawer are housed my “special effects” pedals. Visual Sound H20 Liquid Chorus, Cusack Tap a Phase*, Cusack Tap a Whirl (the best live tremolo on the planet!), and the Electro Harmonix Micro Synth.

At my feet, I have the foot controller for the Bradshaw switching system, a tuner, a volume controller, and tap tempo switches for the Tap a Whirl and my delay. (At the time this photo was taken, I had a slightly different delay setup so I only had one tap tempo. Also, I was experimenting with a Boss Looper pedal. The experiment is ongoing: I hope to unfurl a new looping setup in 2009!)

In my rack are housed my wireless units (acoustic and electric), a power conditioner, a rack volume unit, a Line 6 Echo Pro and a T.C. Electronics D-Two delay.

My "fly" pedal board

Here’s my “fly” pedal board. I use this in situations where I can’t travel with my main rig. In addition to some of the same pedals you see in my regular rig, I’m currently using a Keeley Compressor and a Boss DD-20 delay.

Well, that should serve as a pretty good “introduction”. In the coming weeks, I hope to give you more detailed descriptions of my effects. Also look for pictures and descriptions of my guitars and amps.
