I would say from the old school Phil Keaggy, Dana Key and Glenn Kaiser. More recently Mark lee and his amigo Brad Avery and NTB's Bear Rinehart.
I believe a lot of people associate the guitar and anything with a back beat to their life apart from God. I often wonder if these same people deny their spouse intimacy due to inappropriate behavior when living apart from God. Should we ask the apostle Peter, What is clean and what is unclean?

I have to agree with Renae, Dana Key and Bob Hartman were two of my big influences early on, as well as Randy Thompson (sp?) in his Sweet Comfort Band and Allies days. Also, check out Kerry Livgren's work on some Second Chapter of Acts recordings, although he's better known for his pre-CCM days with Kansas, and also for his keyboard work. Oh, and don't forget Rex Carrol from Whitecross. He could really wail! I haven't heard anything from him in awhile. Is he still playing anywhere?

Nigel Hendroff (Hillsong) and Alex Nifong (Kristian Stanfill, Matt Redman) are the two guys everyone is trying to be, besides Daniel Carson (Chris Tomlin). Look at tone, look at phrasing, look at chord voicing. I'm lucky enough to live in Atlanta where I can see Alex and Daniel on a regular basis... but the "L" in ATL stands for Lallerstedt... as in Sonny Lallerstedt. I know... none of you have heard of him, but he's a session player leading worship at North Metro Church in Marietta Georgia. He's been on stuff from Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir to the original two Passion CD's. He's a beast of a player.

I've been listening to Christian music for the past 16 or so years. Started off with Aaron Geoffrey because they were, in my book, like Huey Lewis and the News. It wasn't until several years ago I discovered Third Day and the unique style of Mark Lee. Mark, I have to give credit where it is due, I love the way you play. Makes me want to go try to play. Anyway keep doing what you are doing because you and the rest of Third Day are doing a awesome job.

I have found especially down through the years that Steven Curtis Chapman is a big influence as far as guitar playing...the man can serious play. MarK Lee from Third Day has also been an influence when I switched to guitar years back

Can I get away with mentioning U2 here? They may not be winning Dove Awards but I'd argue that they've influenced Christian music, especially in the modern worship arena, more than most CCM bands.

The Edge.

'nuff said. :-)

So does it have to be guitarists from CCM?
These guys arn't but ...
One of all time favorites is a guy named Eric Johnson...Tone for day's and just a guitar monster, and there is Steve Morse from the Dixie Dreggs..

CCM guys..Lincoln Brewster, David Crowder on acoustic, and Dan Huff

I gotta admit Lincoln on "Everybody Praise" makes me giggle. First time I heard that guitar line my pastor was playing it on a bass, and I HAD to find it... heard it, bought the entire album and now LOVE LB. Seriously LB has brought Praise and Worship up a notch... but I'm still happily stuck on "Nothing Compares" and listening to Mark tear it up on that... (that and its still my fav song ever).
