I would have to say 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' has got to be mentioned up in here. It's earned it. I know that nobody reads the comments besides their own, though. So... Kay, bye! -AbbyRoad23

How can anyone watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnqpOFcBiMM and even mention another guitar solo? I'm ashamed to even call myself a guitar player after seeing Eric Johnson (IMHO) (Of course)

Marc achieves a similiar effect on the solo at the end of "Thief", I find myself wanting him to play it out longer then he does.

I agree with Gilmour's Comfortably Numb. DG's solo's are like fusion, they generate a great deal of energy while appearing to do so effortlessly. DG achieves slowly what others strive for with speed. His understanding of intent and result place him in a very elite group of Musicians

Wow, it's hard to pick, but I have to agree with the Comfortably Numb solo as one of my favorites. There's just so much emotion there. It's like anguish mixed with serenity, if that makes any sense. I've always been a big Rush fan, so I would include Alex Lifeson's solos in La Villa Strangiato. They're kinda bluesy and classical all at the same time. Satch Boogie by Joe Satriani is worth considering, as well as Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson. As mentioned earlier, Neal Schon from Journey has recorded some very tasty stuff over the years. Rex Carrol from Whitecross did a cool solo on their In the Kingdom CD. I think it's called the The Eternal Fire. It's kinda Eruptionesque. On the country side of things, check out Guit-Steel Blues by Junior Brown. He has this double neck instrument called a guit-steel that is half Telecaster and half lap steel. He does some crazy stuff with it. I'm sure I'm leaving out some biggies, but those are some of my faves.

Mark Tremonti is a beast, check out Alter Bridge. Myles Kennedy is good too. And I definately believe that 20 years of guitar playing has made Dr Mark Lee a great guitarist as well. You should post a video showing how you pull of the solo to Tunnel live. And I love your slide work, too

Two I'd throw out there in the discussion would be:

Larry Carlton - "Kid Charlemagne" (actually, could also throw his work on "Don't Take Me Alive," same album)
Steve Lukather - "Hold The Line"

I tend to agree w/ Mark's assessment about being a good guitar solo...everyone wants to discuss the most technically proficient guitar player, but if a solo doesn't contain some redeeming musical qualities, it's just a bunch of strung notes. There is a difference between artistic creativity and regurgitating scales or simple muscle memory.

Cool tune...I got to see Mark play it in Fresno this weekend!

I grew up on Van Halen, so Eruption is right there on top of my list as is Gilmore's Comfortbly Numb.
